Are you banking on the Mobile Web?

A recent report from Celenet suggests that up to 25% of banking could be carried out in Western Europe via the Mobile Web within 2 years. This suggests that consumer confidence in the technology is growing. The marketing success of devices such as the Iphone is helping to boost the public’s awareness that the Internet is now a multichannel environment and available on a multitude of devices.

A rise is the use of services such as banking also suggests a maturing of the mobile web. The biggest success stories of the medium so far have been entertainment, led in the form of ring tones and games downloads. The increasing availability of services such as banking means the days of the mobile web as a leisure novelty are over. Instead we are now beginning to see consumers who want to access services and carry out transactions on the go. Their services need to fit with their schedules not the other way round.

Where will your business be in the next two years? Will it be attracting that quarter (and growing) of the population who need to access service and information anytime, anywhere? Most businesses can benefit in some form from this convergent technology. Millions have already been invested in establishing web presences by companies worldwide but they remain trapped on desktop computers. Research from Gartner is expecting worldwide ownership of mobiles to be 2.6 billion by 2009, far outstripping PC ownership. With 3G connectivity now available on most mobile phones sold, faster Internet connection is becoming the norm. Is your company taking advantage of that?

In these financially difficult times every company that wants to survive needs to make sure that their resources are working as hard they can.
